Usually floppy drives are connected such that a single drive is attached to the end connector after the 7-wire twist. A second drive, if attached, would be on the middle connection before the twist.

Usually cables are keyed so they can only be attached one way. But if not, note the cable has a red stripe along one edge. That side connects to the # 1 pin side of the connector on both the drive and motherboard.

As far as I know, windows 7 won't have any problem with a 1.44 floppy drive. So verify it's connected and id'd properly, check windows device manager for possible problems and consult the manual if you're unsure how to set up the cmos.

Be careful with the disk. A bad drive or other problem can ruin a disk. Best to experiment with another disk until you're sure it's working OK.
